Lynne Poulsen

Jazz and Easy Listening Pop Vocalist

Lynne started performing professionally before leaving school, when she would sing and play keyboards with her Dads cover band on the local hotel circuit. After some overseas travel she was off to UCT to study jazz piano and arrangement under the guidance of Prof. Mike Campbell. This led to some great opportunities such as singing for the UCT College Big Band, and winning the Adcock Ingram music prize for Jazz Vocals. On completing her B. Mus. Jazz Studies, she once again travelled to the UK where she ended up performing at the CANTERBURY FESTIVAL with the DAVID REES-WILLIAMS TRIO. On her return, she began gigging around Cape Town in venues such as THE GREEN DOLPHIN, THE DOCK ROAD CAFÉ and BERTIES LANDING, as well as writing and performing shows with her brother, Adrian Poulsen. These included COLE PORTER UNDER YOUR SKIN, THE POULSENS DO THE CARPENTERS (ARTSCAPE), and WHAT A FEELING - THE ULTIMATE EIGHTIES SHOW (ON BROADWAY). On moving to Johannesburg, she was involved with many shows and corporate projects. One of these was Richard Lorings GIRLTALK, which ran for 7 months at THE SOUNDSTAGE, toured Malaysia and also ran at the PRETORIA STATE THEATRE. She was also Co- Founder and Musical Director of THE 6 VOICES PROJECT, which included, alongside herself, the voices of Adrian Poulsen, Lesego Motsepe, Joe Niemand, Susan Webster, Timothy Moloi, and Thabo Mduli. They did several high profile performances including: THE FELICIA SHOW, BAMBANANI, THE VITA AWARDS, THE WOMAN OF THE YEAR AWARDS, THE PRESIDENTIAL AWARDS, and THE WOMANS DAY CELEBRATIONS, and also performed for Prince Andrew Duke of York, on his visit to South Africa.

In 2007 Lynne relocated back to Cape Town, and she can be seen in and around Cape Town playing solo, or with her duo TAVARUA, or with her 4 piece-band LYNNE POULSEN AND THE DREAMCATCHERS.
